If a Cub Scout has completed the second grade (or is 9 years old) they may start earning the Bear rank. The pack will provide each scout with a Bear Scout handbook. The scout will then need their Bear neckerchief and Bear neckerchief slide and will continue to use the blue Cub Scout Uniform.
The Bear program relies heavily on family involvement, but you will see this gradually change with the scout doing more with their den and more individual direction as they reach Webelos and Scouts BSA.
Bear Den Leader:
Every Bear Den is required to have a registered den leader whose responsibilities include:
- Work directly with other den leaders to ensure that their den is an active and successful part of the pack.
- Coordinate shared leadership among the Bear den adult partners and scouts, ensuring that den meetings and outings are planned, prepared for, and conducted by all adult partners on a rotating basis, and that the den activities provide advancement opportunities for the scouts in the den.
- Attend committee meetings.
- Lead the den at meetings and pack activities.
- Ensure the transition of scouts in the Bear den into a Webelos den at the end of the year.
The uniform is an important part of the Scouting program. It identifies the scouts and adults with Bear Scouts and gives them a sense of belonging to the den, the pack, and the Boy Scouts of America. Scouts enjoy wearing their Bear Scout uniform. They should wear it to all den meetings, pack meetings, and special pack activities.
The pack provides each NEW scout with one class B t-shirt uniform. We wear these to help identify the group when we are out doing physical activities in our community. We encourage our families to pick up a class B for everyone in the family.
